Urethroplasty

Urethroplasty: Scar Tissue Repair of Urine Channel RIRS is done to remove a stone. The stone is seen through the scope and can then be manipulated or crushed by an ultrasound probe or evaporated by a laser probe or grabbed by small forceps, etc.Urethroplasty is the fixing of scar tissue in the urine channel from the bladder out the penis.

The Advantages of Urethroplasty Treatment are

  • Reduced risk of inflammation or infection of the testicles.
  • Reduced chances of recurrence of urethral stricture.
  • Improves the quality of life.

What happens during the surgery?

The surgery is done under general anesthesia. The doctor will make a surgical cut in the penis and scrotum. The incision is made exactly over the area of the stricture.

In order to treat small strictures, the anastomotic technique is usually applied. In this technique, the blocked portion of the urethra is cut. And, the surgical incisions help to join the close parts of the urethra.

After the Procedure

After the surgery is complete, the patient will be required to use a urethral catheter for the next 2 – 4 weeks, after which it will be removed.

Complete bed rest and constant monitoring for vital signs are done for the next 4 – 5 days.

Normal Recovery

  • 1 night in hospital
  • 2 weeks of catheterization after which it is removed if no leaks are found
  • Gargling with antiseptic mouthwash 4 times per day for a few days
